Google Search Using Handwriting Japanese Input

You can easily search using handwriting Japanese input for smart phone such as Android, iPhone or iPad since July 27, 2012.

Compare the Differences Between "氏" and "斤"

The differences of strokes between "氏" and "斤" are the following.

The most important difference is crossing or non-crossing for 3rd and 4th strokes.

The angle of 1st and 2nd strokes in both "氏" and "斤" is obtuse and the strokes are discrete. The 2nd stroke in "氏" has acute angle and is connected. These are 2nd important rules. Don't forget the rules.

The 2nd stroke in both looks like same in the case of hook deletion using the redundant rule.

1st	ノ same		↙ ↓ 2 discrete strokes obtuse angle
2nd	レ with a hook warped to right 1 connected stroke acute angle	｜ with no hook warped to left
3rd	一 same		十 T
4th	㇂ crossing downward to the right	｜ non-crossing vertical

斤: Choose Correct Kanji Stroke Order

Choose the combination items correspond to correct stroke order for the following kanji "斤" in Japanese.  In the stroke-independent case, there are 36 (= 6 * 6) combinations.

The combination of (3a) and (3b) is the best answer.  Also the combination of (3a) and (1b) is correct by redundancy rules of stroke primitives.  Don't forget that the combination stroke of same direction is inhibited and (2a) is incorrect.

Please try to trace and check your stroke "斤" in "新" by  PC, iPhone, iPad or Android.

氏: Choose Correct Kanji Stroke Order

Choose the combination items correspond to correct stroke order for the following kanji "氏" in Japanese.  In the stroke-independent case, there are 64 (= 8 * 8) combinations.

The combination of (3a) and (1b) is the best answer.  Also the combination of (5a) and (1b) is correct by redundancy rules of stroke primitives.  Don't forget that the straight stroke of North direction is inhibited and (5b), (6b), (7b) and (8b) are incorrect.

Please try to trace and check your stroke "氏" by  PC, iPhone, iPad or Android.

How to Setup Japanese Educational Font for Safari?

Educational font is suitable for Japanese learning than Ming font such as Hiragana and Kanji examples of "き,さ,な,ふ,ら,八,人,入".  If you already installed MS Office on your Mac OS,  you can easily setup educational font for your web browsing using Safari.

Please setup the following procedures for educational font (教科書体ひらがなフォント).

1. Finder
2. Applications
3. Font Book
4. All Fonts
5. DFPKyoKaSho-W3

Permitted and Inhibited Directions in Kanji Basic Strokes

CJK (Chinese, Japanese and Korean) strokes are usually consisted of 8 basic strokes and 29 other complex strokes, so total no. of strokes is 37. Refer wikibooks site of "Simplified Chinese Writing Strokes".

But parts of hook are always shorter than main strokes, so the hooks could be omitted in case of web-based Kanji recognition as shown in the following figures. Moreover, Japanese Kanji strokes for handwriting recognition are simplified and reduced to 5 basic strokes and 10 other complex strokes, so total no. is 15. The details of complex are described in later blog.

5 directions of basic strokes of "NE, E, SE, S and SW" are permitted for Kanji handwriting recognition. But the other 3 directions of "W, NW and N" are inhibited as the following figure. The directions of "NE, E, SE, S and SW" are named as "T, H, N, S and P" for Kanji dictionary, respectively.

For examples, Kanji handwriting recognition such as "小,九" does not demand hook's input for accuracy. The inhibited directions of basic strokes are important knowledge for Kanji learning.
